Tom Peltier

Tom Peltier has been an information security professional for over thirty years.  During this time he has shared his experiences with fellow professionals and because of his work has been given the 1993 Computer Security Institute’s (CSI) Lifetime Achievement Award.  In 1999 the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) bestowed its Individual Contribution to the Profession Award and in 2001 he was inducted into the ISSA Hall of Fame.  Tom was also awarded the CSI Lifetime Emeritus Membership Award.

Over the past decade, Tom has averaged four articles published a year on various computer and information security issues, including developing policies and procedures, disaster recovery planning, copyright compliance, virus management and security controls.  He has had six books published on policy development and risk assessment.  He co-authored four other information security books.  He continues to speak and teach information security courses throughout the world.

I always like to hear Tom lecture because he makes complex simple and has more historical knowledge than anyone I know.

His knowledge of where we have been in security can help guide us into the future. 

His Risk Assessment class last year proved very valuable to everyone who took it.

Tom has been a leader in the computer security field for many years.  He is a valuable resource to the security world. Come pick his brain!

Lawrence Dietz, Managing Director Information Security and Legal Services, Tal Global has over 30 years of diversified military and commercial information security experience. Recent projects include work for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention in Atlanta, GA and assignments in support of the US DoD Joint Chiefs of Staff and the US Special Operations Command.  Previously at Symantec Corporation for 6 years, Dietz formerly served as Sr Director of Government Solutions. Other roles at Symantec included Corporate Strategist, Director of Enterprise Marketing for North America, and Director of Market Intelligence, Analyst and Government Relations. A well respected analyst, he held key analyst roles with Zona Research and Giga Information Group.   Mr. Dietz has been an analyst of the market for information security products and services since 1978.   He has published a wide array of articles and reports and is a sought after speaker. 

A licensed attorney in California and a recognized authority in compliance, Dietz has lectured internationally critical legal issues related to the Cyber warfare, the Internet and Electronic Commerce. He retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, where assignments include a variety of Intelligence and PSYOP positions. He holds BS in BA from Northeastern University, MBA from Babson College, JD from Suffolk University, LLM in European Law from Leicester University, United Kingdom and Masters in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.

Larry Dietz and I have taught together all over the world and I still attend his sessions whenever possible. 

His legal background gives him a perspective to security that few of us have.

Cyber War Law & Order was what I saw recently and compared the WWII war crimes with a fictional cyber attacks.  VERY Eye opening.

His E-discovery sessions are always popular because of his unique background.

I am pleased and proud to have him with us this year.

Lynette Hornung-Kobes

Lynette is currently a Senior Computer Security and Privacy Consultant with Northrop Grumman Information Technology.  She has supported a variety of Department of Justice components, including the Office of Solicitor General and Chief Security Officer in the DOJ Office of the Chief Information Officer with computer security, privacy and FISMA audit support.  Prior to joining Northrop Grumman, she spent two years as an IT Security Specialist with the Department of Justice, where she worked on Certification and Accreditation at the enterprise level for Public Key Infrastructure, on the component level at the United States National Central Bureau (Interpol) and at the application level for System Development Services.

Lynette was a NSF CyberCorps Scholar and was a contributing author to two books on Identity Theft by Dr. Steffen Schmidt and Michael McCoy.  Ms. Hornung-Kobes has been a speaker at NetSec, CIScon and the Computer Security Institute on topics of computer security and privacy.

Lynette has a Master of Science in Information Assurance from Iowa State University (an NSA Center of Excellence), a Master of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Iowa State University.

Lynette was our TOP RATED SPEAKER in 2007!!

Lynette represents the new leaders in the computer field and a role model for young women.

She has that ability to slice and dice a problem into very manageable parts, making overwhelming tasks easy.  Her work at DOJ and PKI at the international level gives her insights rarely heard in Montana.

I'm glad she is speaking again this year and hope to find ways of encouraging more women into the IT field.

Jason Kobes

Jason Kobes works as a Senior Computer Security Consultant in Washington, DC for Northrop Grumman Information Technology, where he supports the Department of Justice.  Jason is a Certified Enterprise Architect (CEA) who specializes in enterprise security architecture as well as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and he has contributed to the development of the ISSAP in conjunction with ISC2.

Jason has a Master's of Science in Information Assurance (MSIA) from Iowa State's NSA Certified Center of Excellence and a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science from Iowa State University.   Jason has recently been a speaker at the Computer Security Institute annual conference and NETSEC in Washington DC concerning data protection.

I have worked with Jason at several national events and find him bright but not stuffy.  His relaxed manner even during stress is why he's great in security.

I know you'll find his knowledge deep and enjoy his ability to convey it in real life ways.

Dr. Neal Krawetz operates Hacker Factor Solutions and specializes in non-classical computer forensics, online profiling, and computer security. I met Neal at Defcon several years ago and found him very pointed at security.  He is another international speaker and researcher.  His topic this year is extremely timely as it relates to the recent "FIXED" photos from N. Korea.  I know you'll find his session as fascinating as I have.

Dennis Moreau, Ph.D.

As a Founder and the Chief Technology Officer for Configuresoft, Dr. Dennis Moreau specializes in the application of leading edge technologies to the solution of complex problems in the Information Technology management domain. His primary focus is in developing enterprise scale solutions to improve IT efficiency and effectiveness for systems management, security compliance and configuration optimization.  He works actively with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and MITRE on the development of security configuration policy compliance standards, serving on MITRE's OVAL Advisory Board.  Dr. Moreau holds a doctorate in Computer Science and speaks regularly at IT management and security conferences worldwide.
 

I met Dennis while teaching at Interop-Vegas.  He so impressed me with his knowledge and openness that we had to have him for this conference.  Dennis is active with NIST and MITRE so he understands the current needs and trends in security. 

We are very fortunate to have him with us this year.  I know you'll enjoy his presentation style and his abundant knowledge he freely shares.

Justin Peltier

As a consultant, Justin has been involved in implementing, supporting, and developing security solutions, and has taught courses on many facets of information security, including vulnerability assessment and CISSP preparation.

Justin has led classes across the United States, as well as in Europe and Asia, for Peltier Associates, Sherwood Associates, Computer Security Institute, ISC2, the Mark I. Sobell Training Institute, Netigy Corporation, and Suntel Services. 

Justin is famous for his Capture the Flag events at several national venues.  I marvel at his technical knowledge of network security and learn new tools and techniques whenever we work together.

He is narrating the Digital Combat Event so you get a real understanding how problems happen and how you can prevent them.

Michael Unquera

Michael Unquera has been working for Billings startup company Dealerspan, LLC for over three years, where he is responsible for the company's information security.  He became interested in information security and assurance eight years ago when he first started working in the technology industry for the systems administrator at Rocky Mountain College, where he graduated in 2003.  More recently, he achieved one of his lifetime goals and received his Masters of Science in Information Assurance from Norwich University, where he had the opportunity to work with many talented and intelligent people.  He is currently studying for his Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional certifications.  In his spare time, of which he has very little, he likes to golf, swim, hang out with friends and family, and work on his house.

We want to welcome Michael to our presentation team.  He is one of our online CISSP students and has impressed all of us with his hard work.

Small world is that Michael studied with Tom Peltier while earning his Masters in Information Assurance.  They said great things about each other and I know why.

Michael is as Linux as they come.  He has a great session planned on Hardening Linux servers.  Attend his session and you'll understand why he is the next generation of IT Security professional.
